Vines and Branches

Oh, where to begin? Something I have been hearing a lot lately is the phrase “Vines and Branches.” I’ve been hearing it over the past several months from people and in my prayers. It didn’t really hit me until today.

Like in a vineyard where you prune the deaden vines from the branches, you also have to prune the fruitless branches from your life.

I’ve come to realize that I’ve been trying to revive dead limbs. They’ve been sucking the life from me and my healthy branches, robbing me of the fruit I could, and should, be growing.

Matthew 13 is the Parable of the Farmer sowing seeds.

It is much the same as pruning. The dead vines will leach the life from the fruitful vines, suffocating them out.

I can’t grow healthy relationships if I’m still pouring myself into fruitless or selfish ones.

Sometimes you need to take a deep breath, trust God, and prune your vines and branches.
